Invisible 2 Personal Essays on Representation in SF/F eBook Diana M Pho Bogi Takács Gabrielle Harbowy SL Huang Jim C Hines Aliette de Bodard Reviews
This important collection of essays not only illustrates how representation matters, it also makes the argument in a personal way for each of the authors. Highly recommended, especially for those of us who often don't have trouble recognizing ourselves in literature. Bonus it also contains many recommendations of diverse literature and links to further essays.
This is an amazing book, second in a series, about representation in science fiction and fantasy. Great for readers and writers!
An excellent series of essays on a subject that needs to be talked about more. The benefit for writers is two-fold, exposing them to other points of view and showing how inaccurate representation of 'the other' can hurt.
Clear Insights into a Knotty Subject
Good cross-section written people at the various margins of visibility different race, different class, different health status, different sexuality... All are worth reading and thinking about.
The book is powerful, inspiring, heartbreaking, and sometimes difficult to read but so very necessary. Each of us can do better, can create more diverse and complex characters. This book will help you do that.
This, along with the first volume in the series, brings some real perspective to the necessity of representation in fiction. I'd recommend this to any writer, whether aspiring or an old hand, seeking to add depth to their work.
